The Physics Database Services activity provides Oracle-based services to the Physics community at CERN. This includes applications related to detector conditions, PVSS, bookkeeping, file transfers, physics production processing, detector construction and calibration. Also supported are the LHC Computing Grid services (such as the LCG file catalog LFC or the gLite file transfer FTS, the grid monitoring tools and experiments dashboards).

The physics database service team provides coordination of the deployment of database applications, consultancy for application design, development and tuning, administration of the physics databases in co-operation with the experiments or grid deployment teams, database resource allocation to the experiments. The service covers all experiments offline database and the online database on a case by case basis.

The section is also responsible for the coordination of the Distributed Database Operations (formerly the LCG 3D project) between IT, experiments, grid projects and WLCG sites and services implementing a distributed database service across WLCG Tier-0 and Tier-1.

Oracle Support

For support concerning Oracle databases for Physics related applications please send e-mail to PhyDB.Support@cern.ch not forgeting to include the account name and name of the server you are using.

Emergency contacts

In a need of emergency support from Physics Databases Services, you can call the Computer Operators at 75011 and request to contact the Physics Databases experts.
